The Domestic Kitchen: A Case Study

24 March 2016

a 1-minute read

A short while ago, our work took Donnelly Watson Flooring to an early Victorian terrace in need of new flooring.

An outline

We had a month to complete works to the 10m2 area before the new tenants’ moving-in day.

Internal walls of the property were scheduled for knocking down to expand the area before we were able to commence, but once this was done, in came our team of flooring experts.

The plan

Having established a plan during the initial consultation, our team started off by scraping back the old floor. It was during this phase where removal of any deviation took place, evening out the foundation for the selected product.

New flooring before and after

Next came the application of a smoothing product (known as an underlayment) called Stopgap 1200 screed, which was carefully applied to the surface area of the whole space.

The curve ball

On removing the old floor, it was quickly established that the property had a problem with damp. We proceeded with damp injection to control the damp which was coming up through the concrete underneath and affecting the flooring layers.

The time taken to treat the damp meant our schedule was extended by three weeks. An F77 product with a high-performance, accelerated, waterproof surface membrane was added to the floor, including a Stopgap 33 screed, before we could begin the final phase.

The final phase

The top product fitted was the TLC Massimo warm barn oak, which as you can see in the images, is as ambient as the name sounds.
